Guests are Dr. Nancy Iverson, a San Francisco pediatrician who founded PATHSTAR, and Chrystal White Eyes, a San Francisco-area resident and native of the Pine Ridge Reservation. They discuss PATHSTAR’s annual Alcatraz to the Mainland swim in the cold October waters of San Francisco Bay. Dr. Iverson also relates how PATHSTAR uses that event to teach the Native American participants how to find and prepare healthful foods that will help them prevent or defeat diabetes. White Eyes, who made the swim in 2010 and will again this year, talks about the changes in her life as a resul ot the PATHSTAR experience. To learn more about PATHSTAR, go to www.Pathstar.org.
