Dr. Teresa Lamsam (Osage) is a visiting professor of journalism at the University of Kansas. While there, Dr. Lamsam is conducting a research project to determine how the media –mainstream and Indian Country- has dealt with the issue of the explosion of diabetes among Indians. Dr. Lamsam says she has learned that there has been very little coverage of the issue, especially apart from how it has affected individual Indians. She also discusses how she plans to use the results of her research.
On this edition CPN Public Information Director Michael Dodson is the interview subject. He was interviewed by Eau Claire, Wisconsin middle school student Felicia Deering. Felicia is doing a report on the Citizen Potawatomi Nation for one of her classes. She asked for an interview to obtain material for the report. Mr. Dodson offered to record the interview so she could concentrate on the interview process without having the distraction of note-taking. Felicia did such a good job that we created an edition of “The Native American Speaks” from the interview.
