Bozho
(Hello),

I hope everyone had a safe and joyous Christmas and were able to spend the time with your families. Luckily, I saw the majority of my family this year and had a great time.

It is not too early to start preparing for the Family Reunion Festival this summer. It runs June 29 through July 1. If you have never attended, it makes for a good vacation and provides quality time to be with your Potawatomi family.

If you are coming from out of town, it is also a good idea to get your hotel reservations early. They tend to fill up quickly. If you have a recreational vehicle or plan to camp, it is a good idea to make these reservations, too. I have to say, it is a joy to see all the beautiful regalia in the arena during the festival. You have plenty of time to either make your regalia or add something to it for the powwow.

The honored families this year are Anderson, Beaubien, Bertrand, Bourbonnais, Ogee, Pettifer, Toupin, Wano and Yott. I’m looking forward to seeing your families.

Also, remember tribal members over age 18 are eligible to vote in the elections of Vice-Chairman and Secretary-Treasurer during festival. Make sure when the time comes you ask for your absentee ballot if you do not plan to vote in person.

I close this article, as always, with a plea for your contact information. If you do not receive an occasional email from me, it is because I do not have your email address. Due to privacy standards, Citizen Potawatomi Nation cannot provide it to me.

If you have received previous emails but stopped getting them, please contact me. I have had some of the emails returned, and I have no other way to contact you. You can reach me at rjslavin@potawatomi.org or rjslavin@gmail.com.

Thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving as your representative.
