The Citizen Potawatomi Nation Workforce and Social Services program opened a new GED testing center. The new center allows students to reach their educational goals and attain jobs, and it is the only GED testing center serving Pottawatomie County.

“We were in the process of planning our new building when the Shawnee Learning Center GED testing site closed,” said Assistant Director for Workforce and Social Services Margaret Zientek. “We began working this site into our plans at that time because we knew several of our clients would benefit from the service.”

The center can test up to six people at one time. Workforce and Social Services served 56 GED clients in 2017 and currently has 25 students studying for the GED.

Workforce and Social Services employees join Tribal Chairman John “Rocky” Barrett and Vice-Chairman Linda Capps in celebration of the opening of the new GED test center.

CPN’s human resources will use the new service to help job seekers obtain the education required for employment with the Tribe.

“The ability to utilize resources internally has such amazing advantages. When we come across potential employees that do not meet the educational guidelines, we will be able to provide an immediate plan of action,” said Hollie Garcia, CPN human resources manager. “The location and close relationship that we have with the counselors will have a direct impact on how quick and efficient the process will be when guiding potential employees to gain their education and then getting them to work.”

The GED testing site is open to everyone, and the tests cost $34 per subject. Registration is available at
