Voting wrapped up Tuesday, Aug. 26, for the special runoff election to determine the winner of the District 3 race.

Brenda Trevino received 81 absentee votes and 3 in-person votes for a total of 84 votes. Judge Brian Walker received a total of 60 votes, all cast by absentee ballots.

Going forward, Trevino will be the new legislator for District 3.

“The results of the Distrct 3 runoff are both exciting and humbling,” Trevino said. “I am anxious to work with all those who voted and those that did not. Thanks also to Brian Walker and Jennifer Bertelsen for running the race with me.”

She added that she wants to connect to Tribal members, both to inform and to help advance the district. To serve that goal, she is setting aside Tuesday evenings from 8 to 9 p.m. as a time to receive feedback from residents of District 3.

The D3 race went to a runoff after the regular election at the end of June. At that time, there were three candidates running for office: Trevino, Walker and Jennifer Bertelsen. After the polls closed Saturday, June 28, none of the three candidates received more than half of the vote. Trevino and Walker, as the two candidates with the most votes, then advanced to a runoff election.
