Ann Durkin Keating, author and history professor at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, discusses her new book: Rising Up From Indian Country – The Battle Of Fort Dearborn and The Birth Of Chicago. The book details the August 15, 1812 battle that pitted Potawatomi warriors against a small contingent from frontier Fort Dearborn, the location of which was in current-day downtown Chicago. Professor Keating p[laces the battle within the context of the United States/Great Britain War of 1812, which began about two months before the Fort Dearborn battle. She says the Potawatomis were allied with the British at the time. Learn more about and purchase the book here: http://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/chicago/R/bo13859904.html.
