Tulsa World Associate Editor Mike Jones talks about his May 6, 2012 Page G1 column in which he touts the proposed OKPOP pop culture museum. The $40 million project is proposed for downtown Tulsa and would honor the hundreds, if not thousands, of Oklahomans who have had a deep and lasting impact on America’s popular culture – everything from music to art to films and beyond. The 2012 Oklahoma legislature refused to provide funding for the project. Jones explains what Oklahomans who agree a pop culture museum is needed can do, and gets into why he believes OKPOP makes sense, both as a generator of economic activity and as a way to ensure current and future generations know about Oklahomans’ contributions.
