As the Native Nations Institute series continues, Mary Kim Titla (San Carlos Apache) interviews Sophie Pierre, chief of the Ktunaxa First Nation in British Columbia, Canada, and Dr. Joseph P. Kalt, a professor at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. They explore the evidence that strong Native nations require strong foundations, which necessarily require the development of effective, internally created constitutions. They also discuss the impacts a constitution has on the people it represents, successful reform processes among Native nations, and common features of constitutional reform efforts.
