School Supplies

Our clients have the choice to either be reimbursed or to be supplied. We provide school supplies along with backpacks each year. We start passing out school supplies in mid-July, and they cover most of what is on the schools’ lists with the exception of a few items.

We also offered an alternative of reimbursement on school supplies up to $75. Each child must have their own receipt.

Incentives

Every nine weeks when your child receives and turns in to us their progress report with a “C” or higher, they receive a $10 good grade incentive, earning up to $40 per year. We do not go back on semesters, so if you miss turning in grades and we start awarding for the next nine weeks, we will not go back and award for the previous nine weeks.

Coverage

Each school year, each child is allowed a certain amount of funds (to be determined yearly). You can use those funds for:

  • Class rings (senior year)
  • Letter jacket (junior year)
  • School art/band fees
  • School club dues
  • School gym shoes
  • School pictures
  • School sports items
  • School T-shirts
  • Senior announcements
  • Senior cap/gown
  • Senior pictures
  • Yearbooks

Each school has different things that may or may not be required. We ask that you contact us to see if we cover them. We want to help your children in every way possible, so don’t be afraid to ask.

Not Covered

Our Johnson O’Malley program is very specific on what we can and cannot help with. Our funds must be used for items or events that are through the school systems. The main things that are not covered through JOM are:

  • 4-H Club
  • Boy/Girl Scouts
  • Camps through the school year (for example, little cheer camps)
  • Dance
  • Youth league sports
  • Any other non-school-sponsored events

Summer Camps

If your child is age 14 or older, they can choose which camp they want to participate in, whether it is Summer Pride, church camp, driver’s education, or even a sports camp, and we will pay for it. For example, during the school year, each child is allowed a certain amount each summer. However, if your child is age 13 or younger, they can attend any camp that the Citizen Potawatomi Nation E&T office sponsors. We do a summer sports camp and some cultural classes during the summer for our younger youth.

School Breaks

During school breaks, we provide cultural classes at the Workforce building, 1549 Workforce Drive, Shawnee, OK 74801. We offer different cultural classes during each break. The announcements for these classes will be in the JOM letter we mail out a month before the class. Class sizes are limited, so it is important to reserve your child a spot so they can attend.
