Professional bowling returns to the Shawnee-Tecumseh area this weekend with the PBA Grand Casino Hotel Resort Southwest Invitational at FireLake Bowling Center.
“FireLake, the Grand Casino Hotel Resort and Citizen Potawatomi Nation have proven that we’re a premier destination for professional bowling in Oklahoma, and this weekend’s event will be no different,” said FireLake Bowling Center Director Chris Skillings.
A $4,000 first prize is up for grabs between the competitors bowling on the PBA Tour’s Chameleon Oil Pattern. Thirty two of the PBA Southwest Region’s point leaders will be on hand for the two day event on August 29-30, with a practice session taking place on Friday, August 28.
Not all the action is taking place on the lanes though, with the Grand Casino Hotel Resort set to host the inaugural PBA Southwest Region Hall of Fame induction ceremony at 7 p.m. on August 29. Tickets are still available for $30 through Chris Skillings at FireLake Bowling Center. The Grand is home to the PBA Southwest Region Hall of Fame, housing a special display to honoring its members.
Double Oak, Texas’ Chris Barnes, Austin, Texas’ Nathan Bohr and Springfield, Missouri’s Sean Swanson will be honored with induction to the hall of fame. Cary Mogard of Houston, Texas and former College Bowl proprietors Ed and Virginia Autry of Texarkana, Texas will also be inducted as meritorious service honorees.
“Chris, Sean and Nathan and their fellow honorees are well known throughout our region, and are being honored for their contribution to our sport, and specifically for promoting bowling here in the southwest. When we discussed the ceremony, the idea of hosting at the Grand was an easy decision with all that it and CPN have done to support professional bowling in recent years,” said Skillings.
All bowling sessions are open to the public, with competitions kicking off at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
