Bozho nikanek
(Hello friends),

With the colder weather and more time at home and indoors, now is a good time to become more familiar with the services Citizen Potawatomi Nation offers our citizens. I will focus on one service in particular, but let me take a moment to brief you on all that are available.

All of the information is on our tribal website at potawatomi.org.

From there, click on the “services” tab on the main menu. There you will find more than a dozen categories to explore. There may be something of benefit to you or a family member from one or more of these services. Now is a good time to look at what is available.

If you click “health,” you’ll find six categories: clinics, diabetes initiative, Wellness Center, WIC (Women, Infants and Children), health aid program and behavioral health.

The service I want to cover at this time is the Health Aid Program. To access information about it on the website, click the “Health Aid Program” button in the “health” section. The website even includes a downloadable version of the form that needs to be completed to apply as well as instructions.

Any tribal member born before Dec. 31, 1976, is eligible to use this service. For most items, the program covers up to 75 percent of your out-of-pocket expenses after insurance, up to $750 annually. That includes bridgework, crowns, dentures, partials, hearing aids, CPAP machines, CPAP equipment and supplies, mobile chairs, mobile chair lifts and ramps for vehicles, prosthetic devices and wheelchairs. The program now covers up to $250 per year for eyewear.

While the Health Aid Program covers a number of areas, it does not apply to doctor visits or for routine medical, dental or visual exams.

Since we are starting a new year, I felt this is a good time to remind you of the various services that might be available to you from our Nation.

In closing, I thank you for allowing me to serve as your representative, which I do proudly and with the intent to assist you where I can on Tribal matters.

Please feel free to contact me with your questions or issues.
