The CPN Title VI Program began in the early 1980s. Since then, the number of elders whom it serves has grown significantly. So has the list of services available to them.
All Native Americans 55 and older who live in the Citizen Potawatomi Nation jurisdiction are encouraged to participate in the program. It provides a meal at noon Monday through Friday, Bingo four times a week, bowling once a week, and exercise three times a week (group chair exercise).
Each day, the program offers dominoes, cable TV, and access to exercise equipment. Each Friday night, the elders enjoy a Country/Western dance with a live band.
Once a month the CPN Clinic comes to the elders, providing health screening which consists of blood pressure and blood sugar-level testing as well as nutrition information.
Home deliveries are taken to homebound elders to ensure them a nutritious meal each day.
Above all, the elders have a chance to come to the Title VI site in the new CPN Wellness Center to visit with other elders and tribal employees. This keeps them active and ensures them close family-like ties.
The Title VI Program is funded by an Administration on Aging grant.
