Child Development Center

Students in the CPN Child Development Center Graduation Ceremony.

Thank you for your interest in the Citizen Potawatomi Nation Child Development Center. We are pleased that you have taken this opportunity to learn more about the services we offer. If you have questions or need additional information, please contact Donnette Littlehead at 405-878-4861.

The Citizen Potawatomi Nation Child Care Center now serves more than 400 youngsters, the result of an addition which was completed in March 2004. The CPN Child Development Center is one of several Two-Star child care centers in Pottawatomie County, as rated by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

It consists of the following:
-Infant Room
-Toddler Room
-Two Year Old Room
-Three Year Old Room
-Four and Five Year Old Room
-Before and After School Rooms

The children are served breakfast and lunch five times a week. They learn the importance of good hygiene and dental care. The 26 staff members ensure that each of the children washes his hands before each meal and brushes his teeth after each meal.

Hours of Operation are Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.

The Citizen Potawatomi Nation Child Development Center is licensed through the Department of Human Services (DHS), and the staff are either Child Development Associates (CDA’s) or have a degree in Early Childhood Development.

This allows them to:
• understand the needs and feelings of the children,
• support the children’s learning,
• help the children gain social and emotional development, and
• stimulate the use of fine motor skills, cognitive skills and language skills.

Many of the children enter the Child Development Center with little or no academic knowledge. However, upon leaving, the children have gained knowledge about shapes and colors and are able to recognize or write their names.
