Family Reunion Festival

The annual Family Reunion Festival of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation is a celebration of native culture for the Potawatomi. It occurs on the final weekend of June every year. The festivities include traditional ceremonies such as Grand Entry, Family Honors, and General Council. There are also many games, events, and other activities for families to enjoy. Hope to see you there.

Each year at the Family Reunion Festival, the Nation honors a group of its Founding Families. In 2009, these families will be honored:

Acton, Bergeron, Curley, Delonais, Greemore, Levier, Negahnquet, Pambogo.

Reunion attendees who would like to reserve a campsite or recreational vehicle site can do so through the Tribal Rolls Department at 405-878-5830 or 800-880-9880 (ask for Charles Clark) or at CClark@Potawatomi.org.  

During the 2009 Reunion, CPN members will decide elections for Chairman, Legislative seats in Districts #1 through #4 and #8, and the Set-Aside Earnings budget. In-person voting will occur from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 27 at the Tribal Courtroom in the CPN Administration Building.  Following the close of in-person voting, the Annual General Council Meeting will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Long Room of the CPN Cultural Heritage Center, 1899 S. Gordon Cooper Drive in Shawnee.   

In a recent edition of the HowNiKan, Chairman John 'Rocky' Barrett wrote about proper etiquette for apparel and behavior in the Pow Wow Dance Ring.
